Urban Design & Climate Responsiveness

Streets are oriented to capture cool breezes and provide shade, while buildings shade each other and use light coloured materials; eco friendly materials, thicker walls and heat isolating glass maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.

Msheireb’s urban fabric revives the traditional “carved city” while embracing climate‑responsive design. Streets are aligned to funnel cool Gulf breezes and are shaded through arcades and canopies, creating comfortable walking routes. Building masses are arranged to shade neighbouring structures, and façades use light‑coloured, eco‑friendly materials to reduce solar heat gain. Thick walls and heat‑isolating glass help stabilise indoor temperatures, lowering cooling loads and enhancing occupant comfort. This passive design approach translates into lower energy bills and a pleasant environment for employees and clients.
