Msheireb Properties, Qatar’s leading sustainable property developer, received the 2021 USGBC Middle East Leadership Award from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), appreciating the company’s Outstanding Commitment to Advancing Green Building for its flagship project Msheireb Downtown Doha, the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project.

As the only winner for this award from Qatar, the prestigious award marks a new milestone achievement for Msheireb Properties joining an impressive slate of awardees that include organizations, projects and individuals around the world who are using green building and sustainable practices to improve the quality of life for those around them. This year’s recipients were recognized at the USGBC Leadership Awards Ceremony that took place recently during the inaugural USGBC Live virtual event.

The opening resulted from an agreement between Msheireb Properties and Ali bin Ali Group, the renowned local retail and distribution company and the owner of the Monoprix franchise in Qatar.

Doha Design District (DDD), the new design hub in Msheireb Downtown Doha and the center of Qatar’s design and innovation, is showcasing the collections of this year’s graduating class of fashion design students from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) in a window-display style.

The display is part of continuous collaboration between Doha Design District, M7 and VCU-Qatar, enhanced by a common vision of fostering Qatar’s design industry and creativity, and promoting the new trend of shop window display designs in Qatar and the region.

Following the cancellation of the VCU-Qatar fashion shows due to COVID-19 precautionary measures, the shopfront window displays represent a safe solution for the graduating class to showcasing their collections and a creative shift from traditional annual fashion show runway-based presentations.

The graduating class collection displays at Msheireb Downtown Doha enable the students to reach out directly to a wider audience and visitors of the city, giving them a great opportunity to promote their creations in an innovative style. This collaboration is part of Doha Design District’s vision and mission to offer a space for new emerging designers to showcase their creativity and support their careers.

VCU’s Fashion Design Department collaborated with DDD’s Shaikha Al-Sulaiti and Naila Al-Thani – two VCUarts Qatar alumni – to celebrate the designs from the Class of 2021 to the wider community in a creative and longer-term showcase. Located in Msheireb Downtown Doha, the shopfront window displays are located near the intersection of Abdullah Bin Thani and Al Khail streets in Msheireb Downtown Doha.

The designs created by the Class of 2021 are displayed on four shopfront window displays and includes the collection of one of four graduate students, while a fifth window display offers a glimpse into the creativity of the Class of 2022 fashion design students set to graduate next year.

Visitors of the place can have further information about the theme of each collection by scanning the QR code adjacent to each display.

Doha Design District is becoming a key part of Doha’s cultural fabric and helping to promote local designers. Visitors and residents of Msheireb Downtown Doha will now come closer to the nation’s smart city and enjoy a memorable experience exploring it through Msheireb Application on smartphones.

The App helps residents and visitors to virtually navigate and locate the city, its facilities, mapping mosques, squares, museums and buildings so they can reach them quickly and easily using a 3D interactive map. The App also offers detailed information about the stores, cafes, restaurants, and their offerings of products and services. Savvy shoppers can also enjoy exploring the latest stores, locate them and identify the nearest parking to their destination.

Thanks to its simple and effective interface, Msheireb App users can select their service and get all the details with one click. With clear icons, they can spot the streets with their names, find the shortcuts, and locate their cars in their car parking with a GPS system on any floor, and level to reach it with ease.

For visitors or residents wanting to use the city’s tram service, the App details all the timing and tram stations ensuring a seamless commute experience.

In addition, the user can have detailed information about the residential and commercial facilities, apply for rent, and explore the locations of businesses, offices, banks, and ATM machines throughout the city.

Msheireb App complements the smart services presented by one of the smartest cities globally, allowing both residents and visitors to spend their time, do their business, and enjoy multiple choices of offerings.
